Incoterms (International Commercial Terms) are pre-defined trade codes compiled by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), often used as a basis for sales contracts. Consisting of eleven terms (4 of which specifically focus upon shipments made via sea), Incoterms determine the costs and responsibilities for both the buyer and seller when conducting  international trade transactions globally.

SOLAS VGM (Verified Gross Mass) regulation was introduced by the IMO (International Maritime Association) in response to the number of containers presented for international shipping, for which the weight was misdeclared. As a result of the regulation, all shippers are required to provide the container’s gross verified weight to the ocean carrier and port terminal representative prior to it being loaded onto a ship.
